Paramount Theatre
Paramount Theatre is a 1920s theater in Downton Cedar Rapids. It was built in 1928 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The theater’s rare Wurlitzer theater organ gives a distinct, nostalgic sound to performances.
They continue to host concerts and movies. The theater is home to Orchestra Iowa and the Cedar Rapids Area Theater Organ Society (CRATOS). They also show cult classic movies such as 1925’s The Phantom of the Opera. Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids is an exciting bridge between the past and present!
Cedar River Trail
Cedar River Trail is a 12-mile paved trail that runs through Downtown. The trail is ten feet wide so there is plenty of room for passing. Residents can enjoy the beautiful view of the Cedar River and urban plants and flowers.
You can lace up some roller blades and glide along the gorgeous trail. Along the trail are soil-retention native grasses and wildflowers, and parking for the trail is available at Tait Cummins Park. Cedar River Trail is great for walkers, runners, and bicyclists!
Veterans Memorial Stadium
Veterans Memorial Stadium is the center of professional baseball in Cedar Rapids! It is the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels minor league baseball team. The Kernels are the farm team of the Minnesota Twins. Center fielder Mike Trout played for the Kernels in 2009 and 2010.
Smell the popcorn and enjoy some professional baseball! The stadium also hosts concerts and high school baseball games. The new Veterans Memorial Stadium was opened in 2002 after the old stadium was retired. Veterans Memorial Stadium is a fun venue regardless of the event!
